B.Sc. in Civil Engineering
Civil engineering deals with planning, construction and operation of buildings and systems for the industrial, public and private sectors.
The civil engineering student must have a strong inclination for the exact sciences, particularly mathematics, physics and chemistry, in order to get the most out of our curriculum that is meant to develop his/her analysis and synthesis talents.
Typical projects in which civil engineers are involved in their work are planning, executing, erecting, operating and maintaining a wide range of structures and projects dispersed over a broad expanse of national structures and infrastructures: multi-storied structures and buildings, industrial and residential buildings, transportation planning, roads, airports, ports, hydraulic and nuclear energy facilities, bridges, dams, water resources utilization and distillation, hydrology and hydrologic structures, sewer and water supplies, and aspects of management related to the full range of these fields.
The student who wishes to work in these fields must have a command of the fundamentals of science and engineering.
The problems that are to be solved demand knowledge of basic topics such as: materials, soils and foundations, structural mechanics and fluid mechanics, measurement and mapping. The curriculum covers, accordingly, a broad range of basic fields including computer use.
The professional careers of the program graduates comprise a broad array of fields related to planning and construction of structures and infrastructures in Israel and around the globe.
Students’ in-depth training in the field of structures and the skills that they acquire during their studies allows them to integrate into other areas as well: as site engineers, supervisors of engineering projects, project managers and geotechnical engineers.
Furthermore, program graduates work in companies and industries involved in different aspects of structural engineering, as well as in military industries and organizations, defense industries, aeronautical industries, and more.
The uniqueness of the profession and the combination of its theoretical and practical dimensions lead to the rapid rise of many civil engineers and their integration at the center of decision making of public and private companies, government bodies and offices.
Additionally, program graduates can continue and go on to graduate studies – MSc and PhD. These programs combine advanced research and development of additional branches of structural engineering with other engineering fields.
The four-years program towards the general degree in civil engineering starts with establishment of a sound scientific basis in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Cumputer Science, and the basics of civil engineering, followed by a more focused study in a choice of two out of eight choises: structures, construction management, materials & technology, performance, geotechnology, water resources, environmental engineering and transportation.
