About the Faculty

Technion is the leading science and technology university in Israel. Its mission is to be among the best in the world in two primary areas:

This vision has guided the Technion throughout its history. Over the years, the various departments that were developed responded to the needs of the country, as well as contributed to international scientific and technological developments. The Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering were among the first academic departments at the Technion, and they reflected the top priority of the construction and settlement of Eretz Israel for establishing the Zionist vision, setting the borders for the modern State of Israel and creating the infrastructures needed for its development and growth. Throughout the years, the two faculties met these challenges successfully. The Faculty of Civil Engineering was chosen as one of the top 10 departments worldwide in a recent evaluation by an international academic committee. Faculty and alumni of the two departments have taken on leadership roles in the design and implementation of national projects in civil engineering and agriculture in Israel. The two faculties were merged in 2002 into the new Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering in order to leverage the synergy between the two and meet the new challenges of sustainable development.

What is Civil and Environmental Engineering?

The Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering is at the intersection of stability, innovation and creativity.

The field of Civil and Environmental Engineering provides the foundation for all the infrastructure needed for daily existence in the country and the environment in which we live. Graduates of the program are engaged in the research, execution, management and supervision of a wide range of infrastructure systems such as transportation, water, construction projects, mapping and analysis, and environmental sustainability.

Studies in Civil and Environmental Engineering are based on a solid, scientific foundation in the subjects of physics, mathematics and chemistry. During the program, students develop a strong understanding of the link between theoretical knowledge and practice in the field. The studies are practical and comprehensive, and combine knowledge from a large variety of subject areas. Current alumni of the program – Civil and Environmental Engineers – occupy managerial and executive level positions in public and private sectors and are crucial to the planning and implementation of projects that leave a significant and positive mark on Israel and the world.

Our Vision:

To maintain and strengthen the leading position of the Faculty of Civil & Environmental Engineering amongst the top departments in the world; to position the Faculty as the national center for research & development and human resources training for the promotion of sustainable development of Israel’s national infrastructure.

 

Our Mission:

To develop cutting-edge technologies and to train skilled professionals for national infrastructure planning and construction; to be proactive in leading the implementation of state-of-the-art know-how across large-scale national projects that have been promoted by the new vision for Israel and the State of Israel’s Master Plan.

The undergraduate programs (B.Sc.) include traditional multi-disciplinary engineering studies, as well as seven specific engineering discipline programs: structures, management & construction, transportation engineering, water resources, geo-information, agriculture and quality engineering in bioprocesses. The four-year program provides students with a strong scientific foundation in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Computer Science, as well as the basics of engineering and civil engineering and a more focused program of study relevant to the specific discipline.

At the Technion, we promote a learning experience based on cooperation, a supportive community and collaborative learning. We believe that the learning that occurs outside of the classroom is no less important than that which occurs during the class session; therefore, areas for both larger collaborative learning and small-group learning are provided and encouraged.

An integral part of the curriculum is the vibrant social life, which has already become a fundamental part of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering’s tradition. Every year, the faculty organizes “fun days”, lunches with the dean, and other social events to relieve academic stress and create a stronger community.

Further, in the faculty, there are many social enterprises, including the “Moed B” store, which donates its entire profit to a scholarship fund for students in need. The faculty also facilitates the integration of people with various disabilities into the labor market.
